What’s With the AI Images?

Look, I’m a decent enough writer, but I cannot draw to save my life. But because the Internet demands an image on every piece of content, I have turned to AI image generators, making requests like “Make a meme that tells people not to make or share memes, and use Sisyphus and his boulder to illustrate it somehow.”

The AIs are, um, okay at this. Dall•E is probably the easiest, most flexible I’ve tried so far, but they’re all crappy in some fundamental ways, like not being able to tell uphill from downhill. Still, the badness and weirdness of the work can be fascinating, which is why I continue to use them. I would love not to, but I’m not going to learn how to draw at this age, and no one else is going to work on my schedule, not that I have money to pay them.
